Joe Yribarren
Joe Yribarren has more than 17 years of experience as an educator in both East Palo Alto and Palo Alto and has been recognized for developing methods to improve student proficiency in math and the English language. Since 2010, Joe has taught English and math at Jane Lathrop Stanford (JLS) Middle School in Palo Alto and served in leadership roles, including sixth-grade lead teacher, sixth-grade math lead, JLS Math Instructional Lead, Site Council representative, and student council advisor.
Previously, as a sixth-grade teacher at Cesar Chavez Academy in East Palo Alto, he worked closely with the UC Santa Cruz New Teacher Center to develop and implement intervention programs to improve student math and language proficiency. Thanks to those efforts, Cesar Chavez Academy celebrated some of the most substantial gains in standardized testing performance in years. Joe is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Education and earned a Master’s in Teaching with an emphasis in Social Justice and Multicultural Education from Fresno State University.
